Ruvenor tablets
RUVENOR tablets is a balanced combination of the two most efficacious and proven biologically active phytosubstances: Horse chestnut extract /Aesculus Hippocastanum/ and Butcher's broom extract /Ruscus aculeatus L./.
Aesculus Hippocastanum is utilized in clinical practice for alleviating subjective symptoms and reducing objective signs of chronic venous failure.
The active substance of the extract is aescin. It possesses venotonic, vasoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. These are prerequisites for its administration in cases of varicose veins as well as hemorrhoids. The extract reduces abnormally increased capillary permeability and the related edemas.
A review article published in 1996 summarizes observations of more than 800 medical practitioners on more than 5000 patients with chronic venous failure who have taken a standardized extract of Aesculus Hippocastanum. They conclude that all examined symptoms (pain, fatigue, tension and swelling of the legs as well as itching) “have improved significantly or faded away.” They think that the extract has a key role in the therapy of the aforementioned symptoms, much better tolerance, effectiveness and convenience in comparison with compressive dressings. These conclusions are reached in double blind placebo controlled trials. Safety and efficacy of this natural product are becoming more and more recognized worldwide.
Ruscus aculeatus is a kind of a myrtle spread in Mediterranean countries. Its extract is an effective venotonic substance because of its anti-inflammatory properties. The active biochemical substance is ruscogenin. It is a kind of a saponin playing a role of a vasoconstriction agent through alpha-adrenergic receptors. It also inhibits elastase, an enzyme responsible for the decrement of venous tone.
Herbalists from different ages staring from the 1st century A. D. have utilized this kind of a myrtle to treat dilated veins and hemorrhoids. In the recent years, more and more research data have been accumulated in support of the properties ascribed to the plant by folk medicine.
Several human trial have proved the effectiveness of ruscus as an independent agent in cases of venous failure as well as in combination with flavonoids, Aesculus Hippocastanum and vitamin C. The results show a quite rapid change of symptoms, improvement of venous tone, decrement of capillary permeability and reduction of leg and ankle edemas.
