Hoodea
HOODEA is a food supplement for people with overweight aimed to help control food intake. It is sold on the Bulgarian market under the form of sixty capsules, each one containing 100mg dry extract 20:1 of Hoodia Gordonii cactus.
This special cactus has been used for centuries by the tribe Xomani San- living in the Kalahari desert in order to overcome severe hunger during the long trips through the unfriendly desert.
Although the potential of the cactus has been known to scientists for a long time, the active ingredient has been patented by the South-African council for scientific and industrial research. A big pharmaceutical company has isolated form Hoodia Gordonii the molecule P57 and tried to synthesize it. In nature we can find this molecule in the extract of the cactus.
Besides suppressing appetite the extract has a mild aphrodisiac effect. Results from human studies carried out in Britain reveal that the active ingredient may reduce the intake of calories by 1000 per day. The extract works by imitating the effect of glucose on the receptors and deceives them that the human organism is not hungry. There is evidence that the active molecule is a thousand times stronger than the one of the glucose.
The substance acts by suppressing appetite and the desire to eat. The strength of this action somehow depends on the weight of the person. Anyway the recommended dose is 50-150mg half an hour before meal. Research has shown that adults need 20-25mg of the molecule P57 in order to achieve satisfactory results in appetite suppression. We use extract 20:1 in the production of HOODEA and achieve the desired effect by 100mg of it.
The extract of Hoodia Gordonii is safe and undesired effects have not been reported.
